Lasso repeals the state of emergency in six provinces of Ecuador due to internal mobilizations

MADRID, 26 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, has repealed this Saturday the state of exception in six provinces of the country, a measure that he approved as a "response" to the acts of violence registered by the national strike.

Lasso has thus issued a new decree that annuls the previous state of emergency in the provinces of Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Pastaza and Imbabura. This measure once again allows freedom of assembly and association in public spaces, reported the newspaper 'El Comercio'.

Due to the demonstrations in the Latin American country, which total 13 consecutive days, the political leader issued a first decree that imposed a state of emergency in three provinces.

This decree allowed the action of the Armed Forces together with the National Police. In turn, the rule abolished the rights of association and meeting, as well as the establishment of a night curfew in Quito.

Subsequently, last Monday a new decree came into force - in force until this Saturday - that extended the state of emergency from three to six provinces.

The strike began on June 13 with a series of demands regarding the conservative policies of the Lasso government. The president has expressed his willingness to dialogue, but has also denounced an attempted "coup d'état" to remove him from power.
