Kirby compares the Russian bombardment of the port of Odesa with "similar" maneuvers of Russia in Syria

MADRID, 26 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The strategic communication coordinator of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, has compared the Russian bombing of the port of Odessa last Saturday with other "similar" maneuvers by Russian troops in the Syrian war.

"Unfortunately, we have seen the same thing from the Russians before, we can even remember the war in Syria, where they attacked humanitarian aid shipments destined for Syrian citizens and Syrian refugees," Kirby said during an interview with the US network CNN.

The person in charge of the communication of the National Security Council has detailed that the intelligence of the United States has "some indications" that the Russian attack was directed against grain terminals in the port of Odessa.

For this reason, Kirby has announced that the United States will observe "very closely" the possibility of Russia launching new attacks that target grain prepared for export.

"Hopefully this will not happen again and (Russia) will indeed have participated in good faith in Istanbul," the US official hoped.

Ukraine and Russia signed an agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey in Istanbul last Friday that would allow the resumption of vital grain exports from Ukraine's Black Sea ports, a diplomatic breakthrough aimed at alleviating a global food crisis sparked by war. .

However, just a day later, two Russian missiles hit the port's infrastructure, while two were shot down by Ukraine's air defense, according to the country's authorities.

The Ukrainian authorities have denounced this Tuesday morning another Russian attack on the port city of Odessa, three days after Russia launched an attack on the city's port after the agreement signed between Ukraine and Russia.

"Missile attack with the use of strategic aviation aircraft," the head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Bratchuk, assured on his Telegram channel.
