The Basque breaks the tournament record (-25) and equals his idol after a perfect and historic last day in Madrid

MADRID, 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm won his third Spanish Open this Sunday by winning the Acciona Open de España presented by Madrid, an event belonging to the DP World Tour, with total dominance and a recital on the last day to fulfill his favoritism.

All the lights were on the player from Barrika and last year's US Open champion fulfilled his role with authority. Rahm left a week to remember for his game and for history for his third title, equaling at 27 years the record that his idol Severiano Ballesteros had.

The Basque golfer left a last card of 62 strokes, a brilliant way of defending the leadership reached the previous day and not giving rise to any surprises. With a total of -25, a new tournament record, Rahm was proclaimed champion at the Villa de Madrid Country Club with six shots ahead of the second, Frenchman Matthieu Pavon.

Champion in 2018 and 2019, Rahm added one more National Open to his record, the clear objective with which he landed in Madrid this week. With four 'birdies' in the first nine holes, the task seemed more than resolved for a Rahm who left another four 'birdies' in the second round plus an 'eagle'.

The 'bogey' in the 12th remained anecdotal, as were the failures on Friday that did not even seem to matter knowing that it was in his power to win this week. Rahm, who became a father for the second time this summer, won the Mexico Open of the North American PGA in May, his first victory since the US Open and now lifts his eighth DP World Tour title, 15th in six years of career.
