Japan will ask tourists to take out health insurance and wear a mask

MADRID, 7 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Foreign tourists visiting Japan must take out private medical insurance that covers expenses in case of contracting COVID-19 and wear a mask, according to the regulations released by the Government this Tuesday, three days before the gradual opening of the borders.

The Asian country will allow the entry of tourist groups starting Friday, after maintaining one of the most restrictive policies for the arrival of foreigners from around the world to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tourism Minister Tetsuo Saito explained at a press conference that "understanding the regulations and complying with them will facilitate the smooth resumption of tourism and its expansion," according to the Kiodo news agency. Tourists must sign a document with their agencies in which they agree to abide by the new rules.

In case there is any positive, the agencies must transfer this tourist to a medical center and help him until he leaves the country. These companies will also be obliged to notify infections that occur up to a week after the patient leaves Japan.

The country, which will maintain a limit of 20,000 daily arrivals, relaxed the regulations regarding masks in May, although it is still recommended to wear them in most indoor spaces and on public transport, as well as in outdoor places with agglomeration of people. or in conversational contexts.
