The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday that it will impose new sanctions against two Russian banks and one Belarusian bank and will extend the ban on exporting goods to Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine, unleashed on February 24 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin. .

Thus, it has pointed out in a statement published on its website that the decision has been adopted "in view of the international situation surrounding Ukraine" and due to the "measures adopted by large countries to contribute to international efforts towards international peace and to resolve the problem".

The assets of the Agricultural Bank and the Credit Bank of Russia and the Bank for Development and Reconstruction of Belarus will be frozen from July 7 as part of the new sanctions package. It will only be possible to make payments and transactions with these banks with an authorization from the Japanese authorities.

On the other hand, the Foreign Ministry has stressed that the measure includes "the ban on the export of goods that contribute to strengthening Russia's industrial base"

Japan's Foreign Ministry announced on May 10 a package of sanctions affecting 141 people from Russia, including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and 71 companies from the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Lugansk.
