Japan bans export of chemical weapons to Russia

MADRID, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Japan has approved a new package of sanctions against Russia in which it prohibits the export of goods related to chemical weapons to Russia.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced on Monday the expansion of sanctions that include more than twenty organizations associated with the defense industry.

"To contribute to international efforts, the Cabinet of Japan has approved on Monday the ban on exports to specific organizations in the Russian Federation," the statement read.

The measures have been taken in response to growing concerns that the Russian military could use weapons of mass destruction in Ukraine. They include the "ban on exporting 21 designated organizations" and the "ban on exporting chemical weapons and other goods to the Russian Federation."

The sanctions cover the Moselektronproyekt company, the Etalon research and production association, the Energy company and the Alikhanov Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics of the Kurchatov National Research Center, the Russian agency TASS has summarized.
