MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ikea reinforces its commitment to Spain with the creation of 1,500 jobs in the next two years after increasing its sales by 8.2% in its last fiscal year (between September 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022, both inclusive) , up to 1,820 million euros, as announced by the company.

In this way, the firm continues to consolidate a "solid" business in Spain, where it plans to open up to 90 new points with seven differentiated physical formats within its expansion plan (such as urban stores, smaller stores, design and planning centers or collection points), which will motivate "the largest recruitment campaign in its history" in Spain.

"With these results, more than ever, Ikea in Spain wants to reach the majority of people and offer solutions so that Spanish homes are increasingly affordable and sustainable", highlighted the company, which also achieved online billing of 406 million euros, 22% of the total turnover.

In this context, Ikea has highlighted the creation of approximately 1,500 new jobs in two years, which will mean 15% more staff compared to the 9,765 employees with which it closed the year.

In total, the firm estimates a workforce of 11,230 people by 2024, which aims to reflect "as much as possible" the reality of Spanish society, "being even more diverse and inclusive."

The company plans to continue advancing in its omnichannel expansion plan, with a clear commitment to more diverse and accessible formats to be closer to the consumer in a much more specialized way.

Currently, it already has 77 contact points and in the next two years it expects to open nearly 90 new contact points with the markets of Andalusia, Catalonia, Levante and Madrid as the main scenarios.

Currently, the company manages up to seven different physical formats, depending on their commercial location, their size and the services provided in them (such as urban stores, smaller stores but with the same shopping experience, design and planning centers or points pickup).

The CEO of Ikea in Spain, Nurettin Acar, has valued the year as "the result of the work of a committed team that has the ability to seek opportunities in times of challenge and uncertainty, being at the side of people as an agent of change" .

"The outbreak of the War in Ukraine, interruptions in the logistics chain or supply difficulties have brought us great challenges. I am really proud to see how we have managed to learn and develop new capabilities and become even stronger in this situation", he stressed. .

Acar has highlighted in this sense that the company has innovated and found solutions that have allowed it to support many people, respond to their needs in the current changing context and promote its commitment to be "increasingly accessible, sustainable and affordable".

"We are committed to Spain, the country that has opened its arms and homes to us for more than 25 years," stressed the CEO of Ikea in Spain.

On the other hand, Ingka Group reached 39,500 million euros in turnover in the 32 countries in which it is present, 5.6% more.

This year, the group announced an investment of 3,000 million euros in expansion projects and opened more than 50 new locations in different countries.

It also introduced new digital tools while continuing to invest in existing stores and new delivery platforms to improve the consumer experience, among other notable milestones.

Among its sustainable commitments, the group accelerated investments in wind and solar projects in four countries, including Spain, and bought forest land in New Zealand and Florida to plant forests and thus promote biodiversity in the area.

"I have never been more proud. The last year has tested us like never before, as a business, as leaders and as people. And we rose to the challenge: delivering strong performance in a disruptive environment, making tough decisions, without losing sight of the needs and dreams of the majority. Uncertainties will continue to be part of our lives in the coming years, but I am optimistic and confident in the strength of our union and purpose", highlighted the CEO of the Ingka Group, Jesper Brodin.
