Iglesias asks Díaz to build the unity of the left not in "dispatches" but in open and binding primaries

He says that a joint candidacy is essential but giving people a voice to avoid disputes between parties

The former leader of Podemos Pablo Iglesias has defended that the unity of the parties to the left of the PSOE is "essential" for the next general elections but has urged, in reference to the vice president Yolanda Díaz, that it must be developed through binding primaries and open to the citizenship to choose candidates, not in "office" agreements.

This has been conveyed at the presentation this Sunday in Madrid of the book 'Memories of a combat pilot' by the spokesman for United We Can in Congress, Pablo Echenique, to underline that this "binding" opinion of the public will measure the weight it will have each party in this possible joint candidacy, while respecting the identity of each organization.

Thus, the former vice president has expressed his opinion on how the independent left to the PSOE should be reconfigured, at a time when Díaz has already started talks with fifteen parties and Podemos, respecting his times, has urged him to reach a coalition agreement with Sumar sooner.

During his speech, Iglesias wanted to refer to that "elephant in the room" that is the reconfiguration of the space of the left and wanted to be "very clear" by stressing that hopefully there will be an electoral alliance between Sumar, the platform promoted by Díaz, with Podemos, IU, the commons and parties outside the confederal space such as Más Madrid, Compromís, La Chunta and the rest of the organizations to the left of the PSOE.

He went on to clarify that not all parties are the same and that it is "obvious" that Podemos and Sumar or IU "are not the same", but it would be "good to walk together" respecting what each one represents.

"I am a member of Podemos and I do not want to be a member of Sumar", the former vice president has deepened to indicate that it must be respected that everyone is part of the organization where they feel comfortable, just as "everyone" has the right to ride his own party, alluding to Sumar.

Of course, he has ironized what the left likes to set up new formations: "how many parties are there to the left of the PSOE? Two new ones every year, what is the problem as long as we all go together", Iglesias commented.

However, as the former secretary general of Podemos, he has defended the importance of the deployment of the primaries in 2014 to elect the purple candidates, given that the parties are "legitimate" structures but have many "defects", being structures that sometimes "they become hierarchical and bureaucratized".

WARNING: POLITICAL LEADERSHIP CAN BE AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE

A risk that, as he has related, he also appreciates in the case of "political leadership", which is "essential" but can sometimes "separate from the people". For this reason, he has claimed that in a moment as important as an electoral cycle, it is necessary to act "democratically", "listen to the real people" and with a "binding character" so that they decide how that unit is going to be built.

In this sense, Iglesias has given as an example the case of the Italian Democratic Party primaries and the surprise victory of its new leader Elly Schlein, who prevailed over her rival who represented the party structures.

Therefore, he has warned that the unity between different leftist forces cannot be done in "offices", that a leader meets with the parties to make the lists and then says, after that pact, that "this is what there is ".

In addition, he has predicted that in a negotiation between formation directorates the agreement will be more difficult, predicting that the parties will never agree on the weight that each one should have within a list of unity.

Meanwhile, Echenique has also praised the primary system to choose a candidate and recalled that, in his case, it made it possible for an unknown scientist, a "nobody", to be a candidate for the European elections and thus start his political career.

If this path is chosen, he commented, the unit's candidacy will be more difficult and, in contrast, he has demanded that "anyone, whether they have a party card or not" be allowed to vote in primaries, to elect their representatives.

WE CAN NOT PUT IN PROFILE IN IDEOLOGICAL BATTLES

On another level, Iglesias has criticized the attacks that the purple formation receives and that the slogan is "kill Podemos" because it is the only force that most strongly plants the ideological battles on the right, compared to others that "put themselves in profile ".

For example, he has highlighted that without the desire of Podemos to enter the coalition government today, in allusion to Díaz, there would not be a second vice president or Minister of Labor, nor the Minimum Vital Income (IMV), the fight would not have taken place by the Trans Law in the face of the "transphobia" of the PSOE personalized in the former vice president Carmen Calvo, or the president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, would not have been singled out for his benefits in the face of the rise in food prices.

He has also pointed out that his formation tries to remove the Housing Law and is a condition of possibility for there to be an alliance with pro-independence parties such as Bildu and ERC in the key of "State leadership", something that wants to reverse the power structure established in Spain.

Due to this attitude, Iglesias has regretted that Podemos is the target of attacks from the media sphere while other actors on the left, such as Sumar or IU, are presented only as the "good guys".

ALERT OF THE RISK OF A MAJORITY OF PP AND VOX

At the same time, he has denounced a "coup" strategy on the part of the right and has given as an example the blockade of the PP to the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary, before which the PSOE maintains its refusal to change the system of election of vowels to reduce majorities.

And he has also attacked the president of the National Court, after learning that he advised the former Secretary of State for Security Francisco Martínez in the previous PP government during the investigation of the 'Kitchen' case with a series of messages.

He has also warned of the possibility that PP and Vox could obtain an absolute majority in the next elections, something that, in his opinion, entails the risk that, with the presence of Abascal's party in government structures, pro-independence parties will be "illegalized". " and people from the left end up "in jail".

In this line, he has warned about the hypothetical possibility that the popular leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, requests the abstention of the PSOE to govern alone, something that already slipped in the last Andalusian elections to make ugly sectors within the left advocate for the possibility of favoring a lone PP Executive.

Finally, he highlighted the seriousness of the fact that the mobile phone of the President of the Government and that of the Defense Minister and head of the country's intelligence services, Margarita Robles, were infected with Pegasus, and "nobody has resigned."
