Iberdrola will invest 350 million euros to install 500 MW of wind and solar power in three Autonomous Communities.

MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Iberdrola will invest 350 million euros in the development of 10 photovoltaic and solar plants in Andalusia, Castilla y León and Extremadura, projects that, in total, will involve the installation of 500 megawatts (MW) of energy, the company reported this Monday in a statement.

The company has highlighted that the joint capacity of these 10 projects will be able to supply "clean energy" to 257,000 homes and will prevent the emission of more than 117,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

Most of the new developments correspond to photovoltaic installations, in which the company will place around 720,000 panels.

"Among them in Extremadura, the Tagus I, II, III and IV plants stand out, located in the town of Alcántara in Cáceres. With 200 MW of capacity, these four facilities will have bifacial modules that allow greater production by having two surfaces sensitive to Thus, once they come into operation, they will collectively generate more than 313,650 megawatt hours (MWh) per year, which is equivalent to supplying more than 95,850 homes, avoiding the emission of 43,250 tons of CO2," Iberdrola has detailed.

In Andalusia, the company is promoting four new photovoltaic plants, declared of "strategic interest" by the Junta de Andalucía.

Three of them (Poleo, Cornicabra and Espliego) are part of the Guillena project, in the Sevillian municipality of Castilblanco de los Arroyos, and in total have a power of 144 MW and will supply energy to 72,000 homes and will prevent the emission of 32,000 tons each year of CO2.

In addition, in Medina Sidonia (Cádiz), Iberdrola is building the Cespedera plant, which with 27 MW will generate enough green energy to cover the consumption of 15,500 homes and avoid 7,000 tons of CO2 per year, according to company calculations.

"These projects will generate up to 680 jobs in the peak periods of the work, thus contributing to the development of the Andalusian economy," added the company.

For its part, in Castilla y León, the company is building the Villarino photovoltaic plant in Salamanca, which will involve the installation of 50 MW and, once operational, will generate enough "clean energy" to supply a population of close to 27,000 homes and will prevent emissions of the atmosphere of 12,000 tons of CO2 per year.

The 50 MW Valdemoro wind farm is also being built in Castilla y León and will have eleven wind turbines capable of supplying more than 48,000 homes and avoiding 23,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

"With these initiatives, the company will create up to 370 new jobs in the region, most of them local", Iberdrola highlighted.

The company has also reported that it has already obtained the environmental impact declarations for the construction of the photovoltaic projects of Alcarria (40 MW) in Castilla-La Mancha, Peñarrubia (50 MW) in Murcia and Virgen de Areños (50 MW) in Castile and León.

Along these lines, the El Escudo wind farm (105 MW) in Cantabria also already has this authorization, whose construction will begin "once the rest of the necessary permits have been obtained," the company explained.
