Iberdrola connects 4,300 renewable MW thanks to the access facilities to its network for new generators

Iberdrola has connected 4,300 megawatts (MW) to the electrical system in the last year and a half, almost all of them renewable, owned by both individuals and small and large companies, the energy company reported.

The group chaired by Ignacio Sánchez Galán indicated that this boost has been possible thanks to the redesign of the process of access and connection to the network carried out by i-DE, its distributor in Spain, which facilitates the connection of other producers.

Thus, this new "simpler and more transparent" procedure has made it possible to incorporate more than 2,000 new generation plants into the network, with a combined installed capacity equivalent to the energy consumed by two million homes. These facilities will prevent the emission of 3.6 million tons of CO2 per year.

The energy company pointed out that speeding up the connection to its network of new renewable plants also contributes to advancing towards energy independence.

Likewise, he stressed that the new standard "also provides transparency and generates sufficient confidence to attract the necessary investments for the development of infrastructures that make the decarbonization process possible."

The redesign has included the development of an interactive geographic capacity map, available to any client through the i-DE website (www.i-de.es). This map allows you to check the capacity of all lines operated by the company and identify the location of access points.

In addition, it is the first step in the process of interaction between the new generators and the distribution company through a pioneering computer system that allows the standardization of documents and content, as well as monitoring of deadlines that facilitates the early detection of any incident.

Iberdrola stated that this comprehensive process provides "a double benefit", since, on the one hand, it responds to all requests from agents interested in accessing and connecting to the i-DE networks within the framework of the established terms and conditions legally, and, on the other hand, additionally supplies generators, whether individuals or companies, with useful and up-to-date information on the network and on the costs and conditions in each particular case.

Iberdrola, through i-DE, manages and maintains 270,000 kilometers of electrical distribution lines that extend through 10 autonomous communities and 25 provinces, in an area that covers 200,339 square kilometers. It also has more than 97,000 transformation centers and more than 1,100 substations to serve its more than 11 million customers.
