The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, announced late this Sunday that he is going to reduce the price of fuel, one of the main triggers of the massive protests against the Government of Ecuador, led mainly by the indigenous movement, to which In turn, other mobilizations of opposing Ecuadorians have been opposed.

"We have decided to reduce the price of Extra and Ecopaís gasoline by 0.95 euros (10 cents) per gallon (3.7 liters). Diesel also by 10 cents," Lasso stressed in a message to the nation on the chain. nationally and on social networks, as reported by 'El Comercio'.

Thus, gasoline will drop from 2.42 to 2.32 euros (2.55 to 2.45 dollars) per gallon (3.7 liters), while diesel will drop from 1.80 to 1.71 euros (1 .90 to $1.80) per gallon.

Lasso began his speech by assuring that a decision was made on Friday so that the members of the indigenous movement can return to their communities.

"For those who do not want to dialogue, we will not insist, but neither can we wait to give the answers that our brothers and sisters throughout Ecuador so much expect," the Ecuadorian president stressed.

Lasso has highlighted that he has assumed all the points on the agenda of the indigenous movements. "Our country has been the victim of barbaric acts. None of these acts will go unpunished," he asserted.

In this sense, he has clarified that the National Police and the Armed Forces will continue working and using force to end the acts of violence.

He also explained that he has held conversations with several members of society such as mayors or indigenous leaders and that they have all decided that Ecuador must return to normality.

Lasso concluded his speech by pointing out that those who "seek dialogue will find a government with an outstretched hand, and those who seek chaos and terrorism will have the full force of the law".

The country is mired in a national strike called by CONAIE and other social organizations due to the high cost of living. In the framework of the protests, the death of at least four people has already been confirmed.
