Guaidó denounces the aggression suffered in Cogedes as "an ambush by the regime"

MADRID, 12 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaidó, has denounced that the attack he suffered on Saturday in San Carlos, in the state of Cogedes, is "an ambush by the regime" and has even pointed to two pro-government deputies as responsible for the attack: Nosliw Rodriguez and Marcos Mendoza.

These two deputies are "clearly identified in the videos," he asserted in a video posted on social networks. "I must say it clearly: Nosliw Rodríguez and Marcos Mendoza were clearly identified in the images, in the videos, who lead this ambush in a public place," Guaidó said.

The opposition leader explained that the political leadership of the opposition coalition United Platform was meeting in the restaurant where the incident took place. In addition, he has denounced that as a result of what happened, false news and "propaganda of the dictatorship" have been spread.

Guaidó has explained that he has not suffered serious injuries and that he was able to return to Caracas without major setbacks.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has stated that the United States is "deeply concerned" that Guaidó "has been attacked for the second time" in two weeks.

"We condemn this escalation of acts of violence, harassment and intimidation against interim president Juan Guaidó and against all those who defend democracy," Blinken said on Twitter.

On the other hand, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, has condemned this "attack" on Guaidó perpetrated "by collective assassins of the regime." "His physical integrity must be respected. We repudiate any form of violence and political persecution carried out by the dictatorship," he pointed out.

The undersecretary of the United States Department of State for Latin America, Brian Nichols, has also expressed his concern about the mishap, which he described as an "appalling attack" in which the lives of several people were put at risk.
