Germany values a package of 96,000 million to limit gas prices to homes and companies

MADRID, 10 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A commission of experts organized by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action has proposed an aid package for households and companies in the face of high gas prices that will involve a disbursement by the Executive of 96,000 million euros, as reported the Ministry in a statement.

Specifically, the plan proposed by the German 'wise men' includes a check for households in December and a price limitation for one year from March, while for companies the cap on gas will begin in January, coinciding with winter.

These two measures, according to calculations collected by 'Reuters', will mean a total disbursement of 96,000 million euros. This figure is included in the 200,000 million package that Germany proposed last month to reduce energy prices for its population.

Households will see gas prices capped at 12 cents per kWh from March 1, 2023 and until April 30, 2024. This price will only be applied to a quota of 80% of the household's usual consumption. Exceeded that quota, households will have to pay the normal price.

This limit is due to the fact that, due to the current situation in Germany with gas, the Government considers that consumption must be reduced by 20% to be able to face the winter and that there is no shortage in the country.

For industrial customers, those who consume more than 1.5 million kWh per year, the price will be even lower, 7 cents, and will apply from January 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024. Experts calculate that it will affect between 24,000 and 25,000 large German companies. However, its share will be less, 70% of the annual consumption of 2021.
