Germany's purchases from Russia increased by 59.9% until April

Germany's imports from Russia totaled 15.8 billion euros in the first four months of 2022, a figure that represents an increase of 59.9% compared to the same period in 2021, while German exports up to April reached the 6,600 million euros, 22.6% less, according to data published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Compared to March 2022, Germany's exports to the Russian Federation decreased by 10% to €800 million as a result of sanctions for the invasion of Ukraine, after a monthly decline of more than 60% observed in the third month of the year, while imports from Russia decreased by 16.4% per month, to 3.7 billion.

Globally, Germany's exports in April totaled 126.4 billion euros, 4.4% more than in March and 12.9% more than in the same month of 2021, while imports reached 122.8 billion euros , 3.1% more than the previous month and 28.1% above the amount corresponding to the previous year.

Specifically, German exports to the EU grew by 4.2% compared to March, to 69,400 million, including sales to the eurozone worth 48,200 million, 5.9% more, while imports from countries in the EU rose 2.4% to 59.8 billion, with 41.4 billion from the euro zone, up 1.7%.

German sales to third countries totaled 56,900 million euros in April, 4.7% more, while imports reached 63,000 million euros, 3.8% more.

Between January and April 2022, Germany's exports increased by 10.9%, to 489.4 billion euros, while imports totaled 466.2 billion, 24.8% more.
