Gazprom announces suspension of gas supplies to Latvia

MADRID, 30 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian gas consortium Gazprom announced this Saturday the suspension of gas supplies to Latvia "due to the violation of the conditions for the selection of gas", the company has made known on its Telegram account, without giving further details for now.

Russia has recently suspended gas deliveries to several EU countries, including Poland and Bulgaria, over their refusal to pay in rubles, a regulation announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in reaction to EU sanctions against Russia.

Payments until then were usually made in euros or dollars.

The Latvian government had recently declared its intention to suspend Russian gas imports entirely from January 2023 in response to the Russian war against Ukraine. However, last year, Latvia still bought about 90 percent of its gas from Moscow.
