Garicano doubts the government's hypothesis to take Algeria to court and warns that they can cut off the gas

Citizens MEP Luis Garicano has questioned this Friday the hypothesis of having to resort to international courts due to Algeria's position of suspending commercial relations and denouncing it before the European Union because, as he explained, the Maghreb country has a tool "much more serious" against Spain and could cut off the gas.

Although there is a long-term contract to guarantee the supply of Algerian gas to Spain, Garicano believes that Algeria could say that there have been "ruptures and breakdowns" in the gas pipeline, which is why it has warned that they could cut off the supply and that the Government "could not do anything".

"Algeria is giving us a signal," Garicano pointed out about the idea that they could cut off gas, after the Maghreb country has "downgraded a third of the gas since April" that it sells to Spain.

For this reason, the MEP has doubted in an interview on Antena 3, collected by Europa Press, the Government's intention to take Algeria to court because, despite the support that Spain would have from the European Union, Brussels "could not help" in energy matters.

However, he has criticized that the benefit of the Government's change of position in relation to the Sahara is not known. "The government has not been able to convince us that we have gotten anything from Morocco. We have irritated the partner we most need in the midst of the energy crisis without knowing if we have gotten anything in return," she lamented.
