France opens talks with Emirates to replace Russian oil

MADRID, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Economy and Finance of France, Bruno Le Maire, confirmed this Sunday that his country has opened talks with the United Arab Emirates to compensate for the lack of supply of Russian crude due to the sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.

"There are talks with the United Arab Emirates. We have to find an alternative to Russian oil," Le Maire told Europe 1 radio. "The United Arab Emirates can be a solution, at least temporarily, to replace Russian oil and diesel. ", has added.

The European Union last week approved a sixth package of sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine that included a partial ban on imports of Russian oil.

French President Emmanuel Macron has explained that Russian oil imports to the EU would be reduced by 92% by the end of the year as a result of the agreement without ruling out, at some point, an additional embargo on Russian gas.
