Former Trump Prosecutor William Barr Denies There Was a Legitimate Reason the Documents Were at Mar-a-Lago

MADRID, 3 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former attorney general of the United States during the Trump Administration William Barr has affirmed this Friday in an interview on Fox News that there is no "legitimate reason" for the classified documents to have been in the mansion of the former president of Mar-a-Lago, in Florida.

"I can't think of a legitimate reason why they should have been ... they could be taken away from the government if they are classified," Barr said.

In this sense, the former attorney general has expressed himself "sceptical about the assertion that (Trump) has declassified all the documents."

Barr considers that it is very unlikely that the former US president has declassified all the documents. In addition, he has called the measure reckless in the event that he had declassified the files without really knowing what was in them.

"That would be a great abuse and it shows their recklessness, it is almost worse than taking the documents," he criticized.

The former prosecutor has also dismissed criticism of the FBI's actions on the Mar-a-Lago property as "unprecedented."

"Let me just say that I think the driver of this from the beginning was a bunch of classified information at Mar-a-Lago. People are saying this (raid) was unprecedented, well, it's also unprecedented for a president to take all this information. classified to put it in a country club," he criticized.

In addition, Barr has called Trump's request for a special teacher to review documents related to the raid a "waste of time."
