Feijóo will contact Ortuzar in September: "The PNV made a profound mistake in the motion of censure and knows it"

The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, plans to maintain contact from September with the president of the PNV, Andoni Ortuzar, a party that, in his opinion, is aware that it was "wrong" to support the motion of censure against Mariano Rajoy promoted by the socialist Pedro Sánchez in 2018.

"The Basque Nationalist Party made a profound mistake in the motion of censure and the PNV knows it," said Feijóo in an interview with Europa Press in Santiago de Compostela, coinciding with the start of the political course.

The president of the PP has admitted that he has had a "cordial" relationship with the PNV over the years. "We disagree with the PNV's state model and we disagree with its nationalist approach. We agree on many economic policies, on many industrial policies, on many social welfare policies," he explained.

When asked if he will try to forge a better relationship with the Basque nationalists, with an eye on next year's general elections, Feijóo has emphasized that the PNV "was wrong" in the motion of censure but has been open to dialogue.

Feijóo has also highlighted his good relationship "for many years" with the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, with whom he has coincided on the date of the regional elections in their respective territories on the last three occasions.

"We have done the elections together in 2012, in 2016 and in 2020. And in 2020 there was a pandemic. Therefore, one knows the PNV and knows that there are things in which we agree and things in which we do not", has abounded

The leader of the first opposition party has confirmed that he will maintain contact with Ortuzar at the return of the political course. "What is going to happen with the PNV? We will talk to him. We have agreed to talk starting in September. I will talk to the PNV, with its top leader," he concluded.
