Feijóo stresses the importance of the principles of moderation and agreement and warns of the rise of populism

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has emphasized the importance of the principles of moderation and agreement, and has warned of the rise of populism, which "can be and is very seductive for a part of the population that needs identify culprits when there is a problem".

This has been highlighted by the leader of the opposition in the conference 'Good politics: moderation and agreement against populism' delivered at the Catholic University of Uruguay.

For Feijóo, moderation and agreement "are principles that work" and have allowed the creation of the European Union (EU), which for him is "the most important project of the West in recent centuries."

Contrary to those who identify these principles with weak thinking, they "allow democracies to be robust."

On the other hand, he has warned that "the siren songs of the new populisms can be and are very seductive for a part of the population", which needs to visualize a guilty party when there is a problem.

In contrast, democracies are efficient in their management, without rigid canons: they are continuously modulated. However, the big difference for the president of the PP is that populisms strive to deny reality and build scenarios, while democracies manage reality.

Thus, populisms have two variants: either they lead to a dictatorial regime or they dissolve due to an inability to solve problems.
