MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that the recent ruling of the Supreme Court confirms the "legal ridicule" of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, which has "renounced protecting" democracy. For this reason, he has offered him the votes of the Popular Party to "restore" the crime of sedition in the Penal Code.

This has been pronounced by Feijóo after attending an informative breakfast with the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda, organized by the newspaper 'El Debate', one day after the Supreme Court ruling confirmed the sentence for disqualification of the former vice president of the Generalitat Oriol Junqueras, thus frustrating the Executive's plan to reduce the sentences for those convicted of the 'procés'.

Feijóo has criticized the "legal ridicule" of the Government for trying to "benefit the independentistas" by lowering the embezzlement penalties and has stressed that with the Supreme Court ruling it has been "proven that Spain has renounced protecting its democracy, eliminating the crime of sedition ".

After the Government has not achieved "its objective", the head of the opposition has offered the Government "to restore the legal guarantees of the rule of law and democracy". "You have our votes at your disposal to replace the crime of sedition," he added.

According to Feijóo, the Supreme Court "has clearly said that Spain is unprotected because this crime is no longer part of the Penal Code." "I ask the government to protect Spanish democracy and, if the independentistas do not want to, it is evident that they do not want to, please use the votes of the constitutionalists to replace the crime of sedition," he added.

When asked again by journalists if he considers that abortion is a right, Feijóo has emphasized the Supreme Court ruling, assuring that if he did not make a statement in this regard this Tuesday "he would be failing" his "duty", but he has added that this Wednesday he will appear before the media and will answer all the matters on which he is asked.

"But today this legal ridicule has already set all the records, after the yes is yes law, after the elimination of the crime of sedition, after the attempt to reduce the penalties for embezzlement to those of the process. At this time in Spain a minimum of calm and a minimum of respect for our democracy are required," he proclaimed.

For all these reasons, the president of the PP has once again asked Pedro Sánchez, once the "annihilation of the crime of sedition" has been "certified", that "a guarantee of the integrity of the Spanish nation be replaced in the Penal Code".

Apart from Feijóo, Rueda has been accompanied at this informative breakfast by the general secretary of the PP and spokesperson for the Popular Group, Cuca Gamarra, and the deputy secretary of Organization of the PP, Miguel Tellado. The former Secretary General of the PP and former Defense Minister, María Dolores de Cospedal, among others, also attended.
