Gamarra assures after the decision of the TC that Spanish democracy "is very strong" and reiterates that everyone is subject to the law

MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured this Monday that democracy has emerged "strengthened" after learning of the decision of the Constitutional Court to paralyze the processing in the Senate of the law that seeks to renew it and has stressed that in a State of Right "all powers are subject to the law."

This has been pronounced after the Plenary of the TC has agreed to urgently suspend the parliamentary processing, already in the Senate, of the two amendments by which the system of election and arrival of the two candidates to the TC appointed by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), thus admitting the very precautionary measures requested by the PP in its appeal against said amendments.

"Today our democracy is strengthened. In a Rule of Law, all powers are subject to the Law," Feijóo proclaimed in a message on his official Twitter account, which has been collected by Europa Press.

The head of the opposition has stressed that "in the face of noise and pressure", the Popular Party will continue to "defend Spain and the institutions without fear or concessions, from moderation and reason".

The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, has expressed herself in similar terms, who has assured that Spanish democracy "is very strong" and in it, as established by the Constitution, everyone is "subject to the Law, everyone." "Let us always follow the paths of protection established by the rule of law with serenity", she has claimed, on the same social network

As soon as they learned of the decision of the guarantee court, sources from the PP leadership have assured that the rule of law "has triumphed" and have demanded that the Government of Pedro Sánchez abide by the decision of the Constitutional Court to urgently suspend the parliamentary process already in the Senate, of the two amendments by which the system of election of the candidates of the TC is modified.

According to the PP, last Thursday was "a black day" for Spain, with an attempt by the government to push forward in Congress "its measures at all costs, skipping the planned procedure and evading the slightest parliamentary controls." However, he considers that "today the Justice has come to say that not everything is fair in politics, that the Government jumped all the red lines and that this type of excesses cannot be allowed in a democratic State."

"The TC has not been influenced by the pressures of the Government and has protected the deputies of the PP. But it has done much more than that: it has defended all Spaniards and our Rule of Law from Sánchez's authoritarian and anti-democratic drift" , have stressed sources close to Feijóo.

From 'Genoa' they have stressed tonight that "all the powers of the State are subject to the Constitution". "We hope that the Government abides by the decision and does not continue to be involved in this drift, which has already led it to describe the judges as fachas in toga, to not respect the separation of powers and to attack and pressure all those who question judge his performance", added the same sources.

Sources close to Feijóo have also recalled one of the messages that Pedro Sánchez wrote in March 2018, in which he said that they live in a social and democratic State of law in Spain and in Europe and "nobody is above the law", asking for respect for judicial decisions and support for the security forces because "politics is within the Constitution, outside it is nothing."
