Feijóo presents Álvaro Pérez to his parliamentarians, who will coordinate the Popular Group in Congress, the Senate and Europe

In a plenary meeting of the Popular Group, the leader of the PP announces the Galician press team that will accompany him in 'Génova'

MADRID, 27 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, presented Álvaro Pérez this Friday to the deputies, senators and MEPs of the PP, a person of his utmost confidence who from this moment will be in charge of coordinating the three parliamentary groups of the PP in Congress, Senate and European Parliament, as parliamentary sources have indicated to Europa Press.

This was stated at the plenary meeting of the Popular Group held in the chamber of the Upper House to set the "priorities for this new stage" which took place two days after he took possession of his seat in the Senate, where he installed also his office as head of the opposition.

The three spokespersons of the Popular Group took the floor at the meeting: Cuca Gamarra (Congress), Javier Maroto (Senate) and Dolors Montserrat (European Parliament). No parliamentarian has taken the floor after Feijóo's open speech, which the media have been able to follow live.

In his speech behind closed doors, Feijóo has assured that from now on there will be a person in charge of coordinating the three groups in the parliamentary consultancy. The person chosen is Álvaro Pérez, a close collaborator of the president of the PP for many years who was previously his chief of staff and later secretary general of the Presidency in the Xunta de Galicia.

At the same time, the dismissal of the journalist José Sánchez Arce as temporary staff in the position of adviser to the deputies of the Popular Group has been published in the Bulletin of Congress after spending the last few months working in Cuca Gamarra's team.

During his speech, Feijóo has also announced the press team that will accompany him in 'Genoa' and that has been working at his side for more than a decade in the Xunta de Galicia: Mar Sánchez, new head of Projection and Image of the PP; Marta Varela, his chief of staff; and Luis de la Matta, Director of Communication of the PP. All of them "are journalists", as Feijóo has recognized before his parliamentarians.

In his speech, Feijóo has defended the adjustments that have been made in the Popular Group --in second levels-- to face the moment that Spain is experiencing, but has indicated that he does not make a "clean slate" or deny the experience but rather bets for a renewal by addition. "In this match there is no one left", he has proclaimed.

The media have focused their attention on the PP deputy and former Secretary of Organization of the PP, Alberto Casero, who has avoided making statements to the media upon leaving the meeting when they have asked him how he values that the Supreme Court summons him to declare as investigated by contracts when he was mayor of Trujillo (Cáceres).

Specifically, the magistrate of the Supreme Court Andrés Palomo has summoned Casero as investigated for June 20 to give a voluntary statement in the framework of the case in which certain agreements and service contracts are investigated that he would have made when he was mayor of Trujillo in 2017 and 2018, as reported this Friday by the press office of the High Court.

The magistrate's decision takes place after the Criminal Chamber agreed last March to open a case against the deputy as a result of the reasoned statement that the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Trujillo raised, in which the facts attributed to the then mayor as a continued crime of administrative prevarication. The Prosecutor's Office, for its part, understood that there were also indications of a crime of embezzlement.
