Fabio Quartararo seeks revenge in the second leg after the holidays

MADRID, 4 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Motorcycle World Championship returns to action this Friday after more than a month of hiatus so that the riders can rest with a British Grand Prix that opens a second leg of the championship with everything still to be decided and with the leadership of Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), in MotoGP, by Spaniard Sergio García Dols (GasGas), in Moto3, and by Italian Celestino Vietti (Kalex), in Moto2.

Silverstone and its always unpredictable weather will once again open the 'paddock' of the championship, which will face nine more appointments that will decide the champions of a season still open in the three categories, even, although in the 'queen' the current champion dominated with some comfort .

Quartararo is the one with the most advantage of the three leaders, 21 points over the Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), who needs his bike to take another step forward in this second part to fight for victories that allow him to increase the emotion.

At the moment, the one in Nice has been the most 'regular', although his service record only shows six podiums out of eleven possible. However, all his main rival theorists failed and only Granollers followed in his wake, who was reinforced in morale by cutting the disadvantage to the 'Devil' thanks to his failure in 'The Cathedral' Assen, which also had as ' gift' a penalty for Silverstone.

The Frenchman was sanctioned with a 'Long Lap Penalty' after the Race Stewards considered that he did not maneuver correctly when trying to overtake Espargaró, who went to the gravel, although worse luck befell the leader who went to the ground.

"Now you can't try to overtake because they think you're too ambitious," lamented the current champion, who will have to serve this penalty in the first three laps of the race, which will require a good Saturday.

In any case, the 'Diablo' will arrive wanting revenge in a Grand Prix that he already won last year ahead of Alex Rins (Suzuki) and his now main rival, who then achieved his first podium with the Italian brand and who arrives also encouraged by these good performances on the English track to try to get back on the podium after three races without achieving it.

Silverstone will also be important to see if any other driver manages to get into the shortlist. Ducati showed his strength with six victories in the first stage, divided equally between the Italians Franco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini, but the two are 66 and 67 points respectively after adding too many zeros in their locker.

In fact, the best Desmosedici is that of Frenchman Johan Zarco, third, but also far from the lead (58 points), a position that is not the objective of the Repsol Honda team, which hopes to have a better performance with Pol Espargaró in this second part. The brand with the golden wing hasn't won on this stage since 2014 with Marc Márquez, but last year it had a good weekend with the Granollers team, who took pole position and then finished fifth.

As for the other two categories, there are very good chances that they will be led by Spanish drivers on Sunday. In Moto3, it will continue to be for sure between Sergio García Dols and his teammate Izán Guevara, while there is a good option in Moto2 with Augusto Fernández (Kalex), who is level on points with Celestino Vietti.

The rider from Madrid finished strongly before the holiday break and his two consecutive wins at Sachsenring and Assen allowed him to catch up with the Italian, although both cannot be misled by the Japanese Ai Ogura (Kalex), who is just one point behind.

Further away and looking to cut back is the other Spanish trick, the Valencian Arón Canet (Kalex), 30 points off the lead after not being able to run in the Netherlands due to a nosebleed that even made him dizzy.

For its part, in Moto3, the duel is currently between the two riders from Jorge Martínez 'Aspar' team, the dominators of the first part of the year. For now, Sergio García Dols remains firm and rules with 182 points, but only three ahead of his teammate Izán Guevara, who also has three wins and has not left the podium since Jerez. At 67 points from Castellón, in third place, the Italian Dennis Foggia (Honda), current world runner-up, stayed before the break.
