ERC allows the 'gag law' to pass to a congressional commission, although the discrepancies between government partners continue

ERC has allowed this Wednesday with its favorable vote to close the presentation of the reform of the Citizen Security Law, known by its detractors as the 'gag law', although the partners of the investiture of the Government of Pedro Sánchez maintain their discrepancies, which are now they will have to resolve in the Interior Commission of the Congress.

The investiture partners have not reached an agreement on four articles: the elimination of rubber bullets as riot police material, disobedience and disrespect to the police and, finally, the rejection of migrants at the border, known as ' hot returns'.

EH Bildu has endorsed that he continues in the 'no' because he understands that the "heart" of the 'gag law' approved by the PP government in 2015 is still maintained. ERC, for its part, has recognized that it has "allowed" with his vote in favor closes the phase of meetings behind closed doors of the presentation, although stressing that this "does not mean that an agreement has been reached".

The PSOE and Unidas Podemos have stressed that the consensus reached now allows us to talk about a "new citizen security law" that guarantees the "balance" between freedoms such as the right to demonstrate and legal certainty in the work of the agents of the Forces and State Security Corps.

As the spokespersons explained at the end of the meeting, the agreement to close the paper was reached by 19 votes in favor to 17 against, with ERC's 'yes' being decisive.
