Edmundo Bal assures that his candidacy to lead Ciudadanos is already one of unity and proposes that Arrimadas join

The deputy general secretary of Ciudadanos, Edmundo Bal, stated this Monday that his candidacy to lead the party is already one of unity, after the president, Inés Arrimadas, has revealed that her objective is to form a single candidacy that combines different profiles, also new, with a view to the Extraordinary Assembly in January. Therefore, Bal also proposes joining his list to the president up to now.

Arrimadas has transferred during this day that he will present his candidacy to lead the party if his "right hand", Bal, does not agree to negotiate a list of unity whose ultimate objective is to "avoid a pitched battle" in the formation. Thus, he has explained that, if the unit list prospers, he might not even lead it because, although it is not yet "defined", he is willing to give prominence "to more unknown profiles".

Through a message posted on his Twitter account, the also deputy spokesperson for Ciudadanos in Congress, who has addressed Arrimadas with a "comrade", has interpreted that the current 'orange' president "agrees" with his proposal. "A candidacy for unity that includes what the affiliates have expressed in the re-foundation", she explained.

"That's why I presented a candidacy three days ago to help recover the illusion and of which I want her to be a part", added Bal, who last Friday took a step forward to lead the 'orange' formation, catching by surprise Arrimadas herself.

Between the president of Ciudadanos and her 'number two' there are "discrepancies", derived according to Arrimadas from the different positions around various Government laws, such as the Law of 'Only yes is yes' and the 'Trans'. However, the leader has been "convinced" that she will be able to reach an agreement with Bal and the unity list will go ahead.

Ciudadanos will hold primaries on January 9 and 10 and, in accordance with the re-foundation documents approved by the party leadership, will bet on a two-headed model with a person in charge exclusively of the General Secretariat to take the reins of the organization and a different one, the spokesman, who will be his electoral poster.

However, this model has yet to be endorsed by the militancy in the Extraordinary Assembly. In case of being validated and they do not reach an agreement, both would compete with each other. Under the proposed two-headed model, they need a running mate.
