Draghi does not obtain the support of his government partners and Italy is doomed to new elections

MADRID, 20 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Italian Senate has approved this Wednesday a matter of confidence to the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, who had made the support of the chamber a condition to continue as head of the Executive, although it is true that his government partners have been absent from the date.

In this way, Italy revives a situation similar to the one that occurred last week, when Draghi carried out a vital vote for his government, although his ally 5 Star Movement (M5E) did not attend the appointment. This motivated the prime minister to present his resignation from the position, which however was dismissed by the country's president, Sergio Mattarella.

This same Wednesday, the head of government had shown himself willing to continue to lead his functions as long as the disputes within the government coalition were resolved. "A firm and cohesive government is necessary," said Draghi, who has asked Parliament for support.

On this occasion, confidence in the prime minister has gone ahead with 95 votes in favor and 39 against, although it is true that the result is in second place due to the absence of the three main parties in the hemicycle: Liga, Forza Italia and M5E, according to the AdnKronos agency.
