Discomfort in conservative members of the CGPJ due to problems with the Government's invitations to 12-O

Some members choose to go only to the reception organized by Casa Real as a sign of their discontent

Conservative members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) have expressed their discomfort at the problems that have arisen this year with the invitations issued by the Government to attend the National Holiday Day parade, which is celebrated on October 12, which which has led some to choose to go only to the reception organized by Casa Real.

According to sources from the governing body of the judges consulted by Europa Press, the Government and the Royal House contacted the CGPJ to ask who they should invite to the 12-O events -- the parade, organized by the Ministry of Defense , and the reception at the Royal Palace, which depends on Zarzuela--, in the context of the institutional crisis unleashed by the resignation of Carlos Lesmes, who was not present at the National Holiday.

In response, the CGPJ was told that the 18 members that currently make up the Council, the members of the Governing Chamber of the Supreme Court (TS) and the presidents of the National Court (AN) and the Superior Courts of Justice ( TSJ). The contact details of each of these people were provided in a single list at the end of last week to the Government and the Royal House.

The aforementioned sources explain that the usual thing is that both invitations arrive together. However, this year they received first the one attended by Casa Real. The one from the Government did not arrive until just 24 hours before -- between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning -- and only to the members of the CGPJ, leaving out the representatives of the Supreme Court, the TSJ and the AN.

At first, some members, seeing that they only received the Royal House, tried to contact the Ministry of Defense to rule out errors and, according to what they maintain, they were told that they were not invited. When they began to arrive late on Monday, they observed that there were changes compared to previous years, since express mention was made that they would come without a companion.

Finally, the aforementioned sources indicate that on Tuesday afternoon the Government transmitted to the Judiciary that an error had occurred in the Ministry of Defense and that this was the reason why the invitations had not been sent as they should have been.

Despite this, conservative members informed the Ministry of Defense that they would not attend the parade and they have done so, opting to attend only the reception at the Royal Palace. Instead, progressive members, including Rafael Mozo, have been present at the military parade.

These problems are added to the crisis that the Judiciary is experiencing after the departure of Lesmes, since a majority of members are considering enthroning Mozo --the oldest member--, as interim president, thus rejecting the succession path marked by the TS, which points to its vice president, magistrate Francisco Marín Castán, as the only one entitled to hold the position, a pulse that could lead to bicephaly.
