Defense will pay 58.5 million in 2023 to the military who have left the Army for turning 45: 704 euros per month

It is an assignment compatible with a private salary that has been updated by 3.5%, like the salaries of civil servants

MADRID, 30 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ministry of Defense has budgeted a total of 58.5 million for next year to finance the monthly allowance received by soldiers who must leave the Armed Forces when they turn 45.

It is a monthly payment of 704 euros for the military troops and sailors, the majority, and 1,339 euros for the complement. All of them have had to leave the military at the end of the long-term commitment signed with the Army at the age of 45.

As revealed by the Undersecretary of Defense, Adoración Mateos, in an appearance in Congress, this disbursement will mean a total of 58.5 million next year after the 3.5 percent update made to the allocation, the same amount as that approved for public workers.

More than 4,500 soldiers who have already had to leave the Armed Forces since the law was approved in 2006 that sets 45 years as the age limit for the continuity of troops and sailors. Upon entering the Armed Forces, the soldiers sign an initial commitment of a maximum of six years, after which, if they wish, they pass on to the so-called Long-Term Commitment by which they seal their permanence until they are 45 years old.

The same day they reach that age they acquire the status of Special Availability Reservists (RED), for which they receive a salary compatible with a salary from the private sector but are willing to join the Armed Forces when authorized by the Council of Ministers with exceptional character.

Those affected and the professional associations of the Armed Forces denounce that only part of the law is being complied with, leaving at 45 years of age, but not the rest of the legislation that establishes that they must leave the Armed Forces with training validated in the civil world, that they be facilitated in their reintegration into the labor market or agreements with other administrations.

Faced with this, the Ministry assures that it is making an effort to expand the number of places that are offered for the pass to permanence, so that the RED occupy civilian positions in the Ministry of Defense or have reserved places in the oppositions to others State security forces or public administrations. In addition, the Ministry has signed various agreements with the CEOE or the FEMP to expand the range of opportunities.

Specifically, the Undersecretary of Defense announced that there is a reservation of places around 75 percent in the processes of access to official personnel of the Ministry's own bodies and of labor personnel; and she claimed that all enlisted soldiers are offered "the opportunity" to acquire continuous academic and professional training to obtain an approved official degree.

In addition, Mateos assured that they have reserved 90 percent of the places offered for promotion to the scales of officers and non-commissioned officers. And in addition, a legislative amendment is underway that modifies the age limits to access them.

Added to this are a total of 22 agreements signed with different public administrations (the last recently with the Madrid City Council for the reservation of places in the local Police) and another 34 in the private sector.

"I think there is a wide range of possibilities, as well as the important effort being made by the Ministry of Defense to offer a set of measures to our soldiers to train them during their stay in the Armed Forces and facilitate their employability in the future" , claimed the undersecretary.
