Díaz assures that the rise in unemployment responds "to the ordinary situation" of August

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, assured this Friday that the increase in unemployment by 40,428 people responds to "the ordinary situation of unemployment data for August" in Spain.

"Every August unemployment grows, but this time it has grown less than in the last 14 years," said the Minister of Labor, asked about it, after the meeting of the Advisory Commission for the Analysis of the Interprofessional Minimum Wage.

Unemployment rose in August to 2,924,240 unemployed, after adding those 40,438 more people, 1.4% more than in July, according to data published this Friday by its portfolio.

Díaz has assured that the "main concern" of the Government is unemployment, although he has specified that the unemployment rates, and also that of youth unemployment, are "very far" from those registered at other times.

"We continue to work and deploy public policies that serve to create jobs and maintain the purchasing power of wages," the second vice president and Minister of Labor guaranteed.

Compared to the data for August 2021, unemployment fell by 409,675 people, 12.29%. In seasonally adjusted terms, registered unemployment rose in August by 3,184 people. Work emphasizes that the total number of unemployed (2,924,240) is the lowest in a month of August since 2008.
