Díaz advances that unemployment will rise in August, although it will do so "within normality"

MADRID, 29 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, has advanced this Monday that registered unemployment in the offices of public employment services will rise in August, although it will do so "within normal" and the usual trend which usually shows this month.

"Except for last year and in few exceptions, unemployment is going to grow in August, in the normal line," said the vice president in statements to the SER chain collected by Europa Press.

Since 1996, which is when the current data series begins, registered unemployment has risen 20 times in August and dropped 6 times, the last one in 2021, when it fell by 82,583 people after the end of the restrictions decreed before the pandemic.

"From prudence, the data for August is going to be placed in all the data for August. In the months of August, September and October unemployment always grows. That is the logic of the Spanish labor market and the trend we have is this , but within normality", he explained.

Asked if she believes that the Spanish economy will end the year in recession, the vice president considered that this would not be the case, but she appealed for "prudence" in the face of the current situation of uncertainty and the difficulty that this implies when making economic forecasts .

In tax matters, Díaz has defended the government's decision to introduce a tax on banking and energy companies, but believes that "much more must be done" and that those who have more must contribute more.

Thus, although in the previous budget negotiation the minimum rate of Corporate Tax was raised to 15%, Díaz has indicated that effective taxation is, on the other hand, at 3.8%. "This has to be solved," he opined.

For Díaz, a "deep" tax reform is necessary, since "those who have to contribute the most are not contributing." "80% of personal income tax is paid by salary income, the income of workers," she argued.
