Cs criticizes bipartisanship and is committed to reinforcing the liberal agenda in the first conclusions of its refoundation

The leaders commit to "accelerate" the Assembly "as far as possible"

MADRID, 1 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ciudadanos has presented this Saturday the first conclusions of the refounding process launched to "renew" the party, after the last electoral debacles, and has conveyed its intention to reinforce the liberal ideology and agenda, criticizing the "immobility" of bipartisanship.

The deputy mayor of Madrid, Begoña Villacís, who acts as liaison between the refoundation team and the management bodies, participated in the presentation of the conclusions that took place at the Ciudadanos national headquarters in Madrid; the candidate from Santa Coloma Dimas Gragera; the coordinator of the Balearic Islands, Patricia Guasp; and José Manuel García, who has been in charge of helping coordinate the working groups.

These first conclusions derive from the internal work carried out in the last three months with a view to "turning the party upside down". As Gragera explained, there are more than 5,000 hours of work between questionnaires to members, telematic meetings, group dynamics and work groups or face-to-face meetings framed in the tour that is currently taking place.

The speakers have agreed to highlight the need to reinforce the liberal ideology and agenda, not define themselves based on other parties and disassociate themselves from bipartisanship, criticizing the PP and the PSOE for their cases of corruption and their "electoral servitudes" that prevent them from speaking certain issues "for fear of losing votes. To fill, in short, an electoral space that, in his words, exists.

"We have our own issues, we want to set our agenda without looking left and right," Guasp summed up, noting that Ciudadanos intends to "return" with liberal policies that put at the center a series of issues that interest their voters in a wide range of matters ranging from the economy to the environment. "A reformist agenda" to "claim our own space," she explained.

Reformism and a commitment to change that is made with "courage" to carry out "concrete reforms" is also part of the position of Ciudadanos, which has also emphasized favoring and supporting "meritocracy" and "questioning the status quo ".

García has been in charge of presenting the conclusions drawn from the five working groups by subject set up at the beginning of the process.

The first group, focused on organic functioning and participation, has agreed to demand greater prominence and autonomy for the territories; improved internal communication; a strengthening of the territorial presence and coordination with the municipalities; a pact policy based on programmatic agreements; and to substitute the current system of election through delegates for a "more participatory and open" system.

The second group, that of regeneration, freedoms and the territorial model, has focused on more programmatic issues. Thus, they have coincided in the legalization of prostitution and euthanasia; tougher laws against squatting; an electoral reform that favors proportionality; eliminate outflows; reduce the positions of free appointment; reduce the size and weight of the State; and centralize competences in education and health.

Regarding economic policies, energy and digitization, the affiliates have been in favor of betting "without hesitation" on nuclear energy as an "accompaniment" to renewables; proclaim that the current pension system is "unsustainable"; a "fearless" tax cut and protecting the middle classes; or encourage telecommuting.

The fourth group, focused on social policies and the environment, asks to audit all subsidies and grants; improve the scholarship system; and an increase in public residence places with support for dependent care. Likewise, they have been in favor of Ciudadanos being present at Pride and 8M.

Finally, regarding Europe and foreign affairs, the working group is committed to transnational lists for the European elections; do more pedagogy about what the European Union (EU) does for the Spanish; and make "repeated mentions" of Spain's links with Latin America. García has also highlighted "divergent opinions" regarding the speed with which the ecological transition must be undertaken.

Guasp has expressed himself along the same lines, presenting a decalogue to "reconnect" with Spanish voters. Among his points, they highlight the need to promote a courageous and radical reformism; bet on a smaller State and slim down the Administration; meritocracy; fiscal restraint; The conciliation; that parents are the ones who decide for their children; or a commitment to "liberal environmentalism".

In the same way, Guasp has attached importance to the need to move towards a "more open", "transversal" and "better connected" party with affiliates and civil society. At this point, he has guaranteed that the Ciudadanos leaders will try to "accelerate as much as possible" the Extraordinary Assembly in which the affiliates will have to elect a new party leader and ratify the results of the refoundation process.

Villacís, for his part, has vindicated the work that is being carried out in the refoundation process and the "talent" of the people who make up the team. "We started from scratch, I think the message is clear", he concluded.
