The company denies the union accusations and defends guaranteeing the quality of the service

MADRID, 1 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Correos has encrypted the follow-up of the strike called by UGT and CCOO at 11.85%. on the night shift, while at the same time ensuring that the activity in the company is being carried out "normally and without incident".

This morning, the unions, which began a general strike at the public postal company at dawn that will last until Friday, estimated the follow-up of the strike at 80% in this first night shift.

Correos has taken the opportunity to deny the accusations made by the unions, defending that the company "guarantees the quality of the postal service" and rejecting that there is a plan to privatize it or to destroy employment.

Correos makes it clear that it will continue to be public and denies that there is going to be a transfer of its activity to its subsidiary Correos Express, at the same time as it ensures that it is not closing any offices or distribution centers, but, on the contrary, is expanding its service to rural area, where it is digitizing customer service points.

"It is completely false that Correos is going to fragment. It is an internal reorganization that is not going to affect the unity of the company. It is a specialization by lines of business to improve management, within the structure of the company", argues, given the information pointed to by CC.OO. and UGT.

The transformation process in which it is immersed, which revolves around the diversification of services, internationalization and the improvement of efficiency, aims to generate income that reverses a situation of losses in postal shipments aggravated by the situation of the pandemic - -212 million less in 2021 than in 2020, the year in which 500 million fewer shipments were sent than in 2019--.

The company defends the social dialogue through which the 2018-2020 multi-year agreement was signed and points out that in the 2020-2022 period more than 160 meetings have been held, resulting in the call for 15,487 new positions for permanent employees, of which 7,730 people have already joined and the incorporation of another 7,757 people is underway.

In addition, between 2020 and 2021, a total of 5,521 people obtained a destination more in line with their needs through the transfer contest, and since 2018 more than 6 million hours of training have been carried out for a total of 1.4 million participants.

The company recalls that a declaration has already been signed with all the unions, including CSIF, Sindicato Libre and CIG, on the main lines of action of the Correos Group Strategic Plan for 2021-2024, in which it remained "as a public company of national emblem, the backbone of the entire national territory, with the function of a universal and economically sustainable postal service over time".

Finally, it lists some of the initiatives launched in recent years, such as the delivery of 22,000 new PDAs to its workforce, the launch of Correos Cash, the installation of 109 ATMs in different locations in Spain or the promotion of the Correos Market platform.
