Concludes the 'tory' vote to choose the successor of Boris Johnson

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Conservative Party of the United Kingdom has closed this Friday at 5:00 p.m. (one more hour in mainland Spain) the deadline to choose who will succeed Boris Johnson in Downing Street, in a final list that faces the favorite and Foreign Minister, Liz Truss, with Rishi Sunak, former Head of Finance.

The results will be known next Monday and, a day later, the winner will be formally designated by Queen Elizabeth II, who has broken tradition by convening the meeting at her Balmoral residence instead of at Buckingham Palace.

After the voting closed, Truss wanted to thank on Twitter the "fantastic campaign" organized in his favor both by his team and by supporters in general. Sunak has also recognized the work of his campaign and of all those people who have given him their support during these weeks.

Next week a succession process that started on July 7, when Johnson promised that he would stop being prime minister after being involved in all kinds of scandals, will be completed. The 'premier' announced that he would continue in the position until the election of a substitute or substitute.

In fact, this postponed resignation generated controversy within the Conservative Party, especially among those who demanded that he leave office immediately.
