Colau regrets the protest in the act of 17-A: "It seems to me a profound lack of respect"

He affirms that the victims "were very upset" and believes that if institutional charges have gone to encourage "they portray themselves"

BARCELONA, 17 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, regretted this Wednesday that a group of people protested during the act of remembrance and tribute to the victims of the attack on August 17, 2017 in La Rambla and Cambrils (Tarragona) on the fifth anniversary: "I find it profoundly disrespectful."

"It seems to me a profound lack of respect that in an act that is carried out by the victims, that is an act of condolences and that is focused on making a minute of silence, not even this minute is respected," he reiterated in statements to the journalists after the event.

Colau, who has expressed his solidarity and affection towards the victims, has assured that the city will always support them and has lamented that "a small group would like to launch their political messages at this time".

"Obviously all people can protest, but it is evident that today was not the place, nor the form, nor the moment", for which he has demanded a collective reflection, especially from the people who have carried out the protest, who have asked not to never be repeated again.

He explained that he was able to talk to the victims after the act and that "they were very upset and that they did not understand this behavior", and he recalled that some of them came to the act from Holland, Germany and Australia.

He has insisted that the protagonism was for the victims and that is why they have never wanted the tribute to have speeches from politicians: "It is absolutely out of place for someone to go there to carry out an act of opportunism or boycott. There are many others times of the day to make protests".

Asked about the fact that the former president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, came to greet the people who were protesting, she replied: "If there are institutional officials who have come to encourage this type of protest and boycott, I think they are portrayed by themselves and not It is the behavior that is expected of them.

He added that these behaviors do not represent the majority of the city, since he considers that Barcelona "feels represented by that wave of solidarity and empathy that poured into the streets a few hours after the attack and that he was very clear that the most important were the victims.
