Citizens, proud of a King who does not bend "to indigenist whims"

MADRID, 9 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ciudadanos has shown this Tuesday its "pride" for the decision of King Felipe VI not to rise to the sword of Simón Bolívar during the inauguration of Gustavo Petro as president of Colombia.

The party led by Inés Arrimadas has applauded the monarch's gesture, which "annoys" Podemos "for not bowing to indigenist whims that only seek to offend our country."

"It is enough to see the reaction of the enemies of Spain to know that Felipe VI is once again successful in his defense of Spain", applauds the orange party after the King's decision not to rise has garnered criticism from both leaders of Podemos and from pro-independence politicians.

The Minister of Social Rights and leader of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has even demanded that Felipe VI apologize for not getting up in the face of Bolívar's sword, whose presence at the inauguration had been claimed by Petro himself.

Sources from United We Can assure that standing up in front of the sword is a sign "of respect for a solemn symbol that represents the independence and sovereignty of several sister countries in Latin America", adding that, given the "extreme seriousness" of the matter, they will consult the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, if the King's act "was endorsed by the government as required by the Spanish Constitution."

This Tuesday, both the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, downplayed the monarch's gesture, placing it as "details without much significance and totally minor."
