Citizens ask for explanations about the presentation of seasonally adjusted Social Security data

MADRID, 8 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ciudadanos has presented a parliamentary initiative for the Government to respond "in writing on the seasonally adjusted series of data on registered unemployment and Social Security affiliation."

The initiative, promoted by the deputy María Muñoz, asks the Executive to know the model used to seasonally adjust the time series of Social Security affiliation data, as well as registered unemployment.

Citizens also ask in this initiative about what are the hypotheses of and if the Government uses different models to evaluate seasonally adjusted data.

The orange formation questions the seasonally adjusted presentation of Social Security affiliation data, as the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration does, and considers that this model generates "some misunderstanding, if not controversy."

Ciudadanos recalls in its letter that Social Security lost 7,366 affiliates in July, "the first drop in affiliates in a month of July in the entire historical series", although "in seasonally adjusted terms, affiliation would have grown with 9,100 new contributors".

Muñoz adds in his parliamentary initiative that "deseasonalizing a time series is a widespread practice and, in fact, necessary for the correct evaluation of both the trend of the economy and the cycles", and adds that "with the same data, the model used by BBVA Research shows a seasonally adjusted data on membership that is even worse than the raw figure".

"The lack of transparency in the handling of data emanating from public administrations, or only partial transparency, can call into question their credibility and sow doubts about a possible tortuous adjustment of seasonally adjusted data for political purposes," he warns in the text. of the parliamentary initiative.

Social Security lost 7,366 affiliates in July, with a drop of 0.04% compared to the data registered the previous month, the worst figure in the last decade, according to figures presented on Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration .

With this decrease, the total number of contributors closed July at 20,340,964, of which 10,880,380 were men and 9,480,585 were women.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the number of Social Security affiliates rose by 9,104 workers, 0.05% less than in June. The seasonally adjusted data for July is the lowest since the year began and the worst July since 2013, when negative figures were recorded.

Despite the decrease in seasonally adjusted contributors in July, the total number of employed persons stood at 20,111,143, its highest level in the seasonally adjusted series.
