China boosts its purchases from Russia

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Chinese exports totaled 308,240 million dollars (287,782 million euros) in May, which represents a monthly increase of 12.6% and 16.9% compared to the same month of 2021, due to the easing of the restrictions imposed to contain Covid-19, according to information in dollars from the General Administration of Customs of China.

On its side, the Asian giant's purchases abroad reached a total value of 229,490 million dollars (214,259 million euros) in May, a figure that represents a monthly increase of 3.1% and represents an advance of 4.1% in the year-on-year comparison.

In general, the volume of China's trade exchanges in the fifth month of 2022 reached a value of 537,740 million dollars (502,050 million euros), 8.4% above that registered in April and 11.1% by above the figure posted a year earlier.

China's trade surplus in May stood at 78,750 million dollars (73,523 million euros), 54% more.

Thus, in the first five months of 2022, China's trade exchanges totaled 2.51 trillion dollars (2.34 trillion euros), 10.3% more than in the equivalent period of 2021.

China's exports between January and May totaled 1.4 trillion dollars (1.3 trillion euros), 13.5% more, while imports increased by 6.6%, to 1.1 trillion dollars ( €1 billion).

Thus, China's trade surplus between January and May stood at 290,460 million dollars (271,182 million euros).

On the other hand, information from the General Administration of Customs of China reveals that during the month of May the Asian giant increased its commercial exchanges with its Russian neighbor by 14.9% monthly and 39.6% annually, up to 14,593 million dollars (13,624 million euros).

Specifically, China exported to Russia worth 4,324 million dollars (4,037 million euros), 10.8% more than in April, but 8.6% below the figure registered in May 2021.

However, imports from Russia reached a value of 10,269 million dollars (9,587 million euros), 15.5% more than the previous month and 79.6% above the figure for May 2021.

Thus, in the first five months of 2022, trade between China and Russia increased by 28.9%, to 65,813 million dollars (61,445 million euros).

Chinese exports to Russia until May totaled 24,559 million dollars (22,929 million euros), 7.2% more, while purchases from the Eurasian giant increased by 46.5%, to 41,253 million dollars (38,767 million euros ).
