Cheney hopes to continue his crusade against Trump despite his defeat in the Wyoming Republican primaries

MADRID, 22 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Republican representative for Wyoming, Liz Cheney, has assured that she is confident of continuing her fight against former President Donald Trump despite her recent defeat in the state primary against the tycoon's favorite, Harriet Hageman.

Cheney lost last week by more than 35 points, so as of January 2023 he will lose his seat in the House of Representatives. However, she has insisted that she will do everything she can to "support" those who oppose those who deny the election results, alluding to Trump.

"I'm going to work against those people. I'm going to work to support their opponents," Cheney said in an interview this Sunday for ABC, in which he criticized the control that former President Trump maintains in the party.

"People continue to believe the lie. They continue to believe what they say, which is very dangerous. Much of our party, including its leadership both at the state level in Wyoming and at the national level, is very sick," he lamented.

Cheney, one of two Republicans along with Adam Kinzinger to serve on the special committee investigating the Jan. 6 assault on Capitol Hill, has launched renewed criticism of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Gov. of Florida Ron DeSantis, sympathetic to Trump.

Of the first he says that "he has been completely unfaithful to the Constitution" and of the second, considered one of the possible candidates for the presidential race among Republicans for 2024, he has recalled that he is one of those who denies the results that gave victory to Joe Biden in the last presidential elections.

In relation to the president of the United States, Cheney has confirmed that he spoke by phone with him after hearing the results of the Wyoming primaries, in which they discussed "the importance" of putting the country before the party.

However, she rules out any approximation to the Democratic Party since she feels "very Republican", so much so that she and Trump coincided in 93 percent of the votes while their paths coincided.

"I believe in republican policies. I believe in a strong national defense, I believe in lowering taxes. I believe in a limited government," stressed Cheney, who considers herself "the best candidate" for president of the United States, above the one who has set aside the Constitution, "to adopt a cult of personality".
