MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

CEOE has assessed "positively" the modification of different aspects related to the penalties to be applied in cases of multi-repeat theft, within the framework of the Organic Law Project that establishes regulations that facilitate the use of financial and other information for the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of criminal offences, which is currently undergoing parliamentary proceedings, as reported in a statement.

Specifically, multi-repeat theft is a scourge for the commerce sector in Spain, causing losses of 1,800 million euros per year. In addition, to this figure are added the more than 300 million euros of cost that this represents for the Administration in terms of trials not held and notifications not delivered, according to studies carried out by CEOE.

In this way, multi-repeat theft has been extensively analyzed by the Confederation in the Competitiveness, Commerce and Consumption Commission, in coordination with the Legal Commission and the Tourism Council, where the situation that the sector is experiencing in relation to the crimes committed by this type of organized gangs. Also, this issue has been discussed with the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).

CEOE has valued this first step to dissuade these practices, to which others could be added, since it represents a "great advance" both for business and for society in its determination to put an end to these criminal behaviors that deteriorate the image of Spain and the competitiveness of an essential sector for the economy.
