Carmen Calvo on Lastra: "In the democracy of equality, it is not good for women to come out of the front line"

MADRID, 18 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former Vice President of the Government Carmen Calvo assured this Monday, after learning of the resignation of Adriana Lastra from the PSOE leadership, that "in the democracy of equality between men and women, it is not good for women to leave the front line of the politics".

This has been pronounced shortly after Lastra, until now deputy general secretary of the PSOE, has announced through a statement her resignation alleging personal reasons and a sick leave that is expected to last over time.

From the PSOE it has transpired later that this decision is linked to a pregnancy. Lastra's departure comes nine months after he ceased to be the spokesman for the PSOE in Congress and after the socialist defeat in the Andalusian elections a few weeks ago, a step that allows Pedro Sánchez to reshape the Socialist Executive.

Carmen Calvo, who is president of the Equality Commission of the Congress of Deputies, has lamented the departure of Adriana Lastra and has wished her "good luck".

"In the Democracy of Equality between Women and Men, it is not good for women to come out of the front line of politics," he asserted in a message on his official Twitter account, which has been collected by Europa Press.

The president of the PSOE and former socialist minister, Cristina Narbona, has also spoken out, highlighting Lastra's "extraordinary commitment and dedication".

"All my thanks, my love and my best wishes at the beginning of a new stage. She will always remain committed to our cause and by our side," she said through the same social network.
