Carlos Garach is proclaimed junior world champion in the 800-meter freestyle

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish swimmer Carlos Garach has been proclaimed this morning champion of the junior world of 800 free meters in the World Championship of the category that is being disputed in Lima (Peru).

The man from Granada, who a couple of days ago came close to the bronze medal in the final of the 400 free, was able to recover this time in the double distance, where he once again showed the conditions that made him stand out a few months ago in the Spanish-Open Championship of Spring of Torremolinos (Malaga).

Xavi Casademont's disciple never lost face in the race and always stayed in privileged positions to change pace definitively in the last hundred metres. Thus, he finished the test with a time of 7:52.73, the third best Spanish time ever after Marco Rivera (7.49.09) and Marc Sánchez (7.51.19).

The podium was completed by the Turkish Batuhan Filiz (7:55.61) and the Romanian Vlad Stancu (7:56.14). Garach joins the list of Spanish junior world champions that until now included Mireia Belmonte, Judith Ignacio, Hugo González, Alba Vázquez and Bea Gómez Cortés.

For their part, María Ramos and Jimena Ruiz got into the final of 100 breaststroke, both with the best mark (the eighth): 1:11:25. Meanwhile, Estella Llum Tonrath was seventh in the world in the final of 200 back (2:16:03) and Cristina Ciobanu, eighth in the final of 100 free (57:59). The mixed 4x100 free relay was disqualified.
