Canada sends two warships to the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Canada has deployed this Sunday two warships, HMCS Kingston and Summerside, in the Baltic Sea and the North Atlantic, which have joined two frigates already present in the region, to reinforce the eastern flank of NATO in response to the invasion Ukrainian Russian.

HMCS Kingston and HMCS Summerside, each with a crew of 46, set sail late Sunday morning to join Operation 'Reassurance' in the Baltic Sea and North Atlantic, as reported by the Canadian channel CBC News.

"About nine months ago, we started looking at other options for how we could support the NATO alliance," said Capt. and Chief of Staff to Commander Canadian Maritime Forces Pacific Julian Elbourne.

"These two ship companies have worked very hard over the last nine months to prepare for this very important mission," added Elbourne.

The two crews will travel for four months. On board HMCS Summerside there will be a specialized diving team, which will be supported with minesweeping capabilities via autonomous underwater vehicles on board HMCS Kingston.
