Brussels authorizes the purchase of Alstom and Bombardier production plants by the Spanish CAF

BRUSSELS, 30 May. (EUROPE PRESS) -

The European Commission has given the green light this Monday to the purchase of two production plants, one from Alstom in France and another from Bombardier in Germany, by the railway construction group CAF, concluding that these operations will not have a negative impact on the European economic area.

The operation undertaken by the company based in Beasain (Guipúzcoa) is part of the commitments assumed by Alstom in the framework of its merger with Bombardier, when it undertook with Brussels to transfer part of its activities, especially the sale of these two production plants.

Formally, it remains for the Community Executive to approve CAF as a buyer within the process of the commitments assumed by Alstom, but the community services have concluded since the purchase operation does not pose competition problems because the parties compare "limited" market space and will continue finding "credible" competitors.

The file, which was notified to the European Commission on May 2, has been examined under the simplified procedure that applies to less problematic cases.
