British Police carry out a controlled detonation in Trafalgar Square ahead of the royal jubilee parade

MADRID, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The British Police have temporarily evacuated this Saturday Trafalgar Square, in London, to carry out a controlled detonation after the discovery of a suspicious vehicle a few meters from the route of the new celebrations of the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Guests staying at a nearby hotel were also evacuated before police cordoned off the area at around 0930 to carry out a "small controlled explosion" of a possible "suspicious package" in the vicinity of the vehicle, reports ' TheGuardian'.

Police sources have confirmed that the incident is not related to the possibility of a terrorist attack and the square, which houses Nelson's Column and straddles the National Gallery, has since been reopened.

"The incident has now concluded and the square will be reopened in due course," police said on Twitter.
