Borrell assures that Jordan's position in the Ukraine war brings him closer to the EU

The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, thanked this Thursday for Jordan's position of denunciation regarding the war in Ukraine, affirming that this position brings it closer to the European Union.

Speaking from Amman, where he is holding the meeting of the EU-Jordan association council that reviews bilateral relations, the head of European diplomacy has had words of appreciation for Jordan for its rejection of the Russian offensive. "I want to commend Jordan, who has a clear stance against this invasion, by voting against the Russian invasion of Ukraine," he said.

"This makes us closer. We will work closely as we share the same position, the same attitude of defending the sovereignty of the Ukrainian population in the face of Russian aggression," he added.

Borrell has indicated that the meeting will serve to reaffirm the joint work to improve the situation of access to water in Jordan, including support to build an important desalination plant. "Jordan is the second country in the world with the most important water shortages. So, if you want development, you need water. We will bring water," he claimed.

Likewise, he has valued the "absolutely necessary" role of Jordan for the peace negotiations in the Middle East between Israelis and Palestinians, indicating that he will work with Amman to try to advance and break the current blockade.
