Borrell acknowledges that the possibility of reactivating the nuclear agreement with Iran is diminishing

MADRID, 4 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The highest diplomatic official of the European Union, Josep Borrell, acknowledged this Saturday that the possibility of reactivating the international nuclear agreement with Iran is reducing with each passing day, although he has assured that the situation can be reversed with an additional boost between both parties.

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy has made these comments after speaking again with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hosein Amirabdolahian, after an exchange of statements on possible resolutions of the United Nations nuclear agency to force the Iran's return to the agreement.

"The possibility of reaching an agreement is diminishing," Borrell said on his Twitter account, "but I think we can still get it if we make an extra effort."

Borrell has offered "at any time" to facilitate a solution to the points of discrepancy, such as the removal of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard from the list of terrorist organizations of the United States, as requested by Tehran.

Iran has announced the withdrawal of its commitments on several of the points of the nuclear agreement after the United States left the pact unilaterally in 2018, although the Iranian authorities have defended that these steps can be reversed if the United States withdraws the sanctions and back to the deal.

Amirabdolahian warned Borrell on Friday that his country will undertake an immediate response if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) finally approves a resolution against him as a pressure measure to fully restore the 2015 nuclear agreement.
