Blanco accuses Aragón of "lying" about the candidacy for the 2030 Games

MADRID, 1 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, accused the Government of Aragon on Wednesday of "lying" and that "it has overcome everything" in its version of the negotiations they are carrying out to present a joint candidacy with Catalonia for the 2030 Winter Olympics.

"We are going to talk about the refugee issue. The Aragon issue has surpassed everything, everything that can be lied about, and other issues that may be on the table," said the president of the COE after signing a memorandum to promote sport between refugees with the IOC and the

Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration.

The event, held at the COE headquarters in Madrid, was attended by Minister José Luis Escrivá; the president of the IOC, Thomas Bach; the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi; the Spanish members of the IOC Marisol Casado, Juan Antonio Samaranch and Pau Gasol, and, among others, the Minister of the Presidency of the Generalitat, Laura Vilagrà.

Vilagrà assured that Catalonia's sole candidacy for the 2030 Winter Olympics would have "all the guarantees to be able to win" after passing the evaluation of the IOC members. "Our option was to collaborate with another territory that was Aragon, and it had Nordic ski resorts that met the requirements. But if this agreement is not possible, our candidacy, as IOC advisors have seen and evaluated, has all the guarantees to be able to win. ", he stressed.
