Biden: "The world faces a threat of nuclear war for the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis"

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has affirmed this Thursday that the world faces a threat of nuclear war for the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, and has warned that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, “is not kidding ".

"For the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have a direct threat of the use of a nuclear weapon if, in fact, things continue the way they are going," said the US president, according to a statement released by the House. White.

Biden has recalled the "Armageddon" perspective of the time of former President J.F Kennedy, who had to deal with the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, when the United States was aware of the existence of medium-range nuclear missile bases of the Army of the Soviet Union in Cuba.

In this sense, he lamented that, in his opinion, there is no possibility of using a tactical nuclear weapon and not ending up in a nuclear war. Likewise, he has detailed that he is trying to "find out what is Putin's exit ramp."

"I'm trying to figure out what Putin's off-ramp is. Where does he find a way out? How do you make it so that Russia not only gets a facelift, but also that Putin loses significant power within Russia?" Biden added.

However, the president of the United States has warned that his Russian counterpart is not joking when talking about the possible use of nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons, alleging that Putin could use them since his Army is "significantly underperforming".

"We have a guy I know quite well (...) He is not kidding when he talks about the possible use of nuclear weapons," he reiterated.
