Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was chosen this Tuesday as the best player in the 2021-22 Champions League by UEFA's panel of Technical Observers, while his teammate Vinícius was named the best young footballer, and both are included. in the team of the season alongside Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Croatian midfielder Luka Modric.

The French striker topped the scorers table in the top continental competition with 15 goals -ten of them in qualifying rounds-, key in some of the white team's comebacks in this edition of the tournament, vital to reaching the final and the fourteenth 'Orejona'.

Benzema scored a decisive hat-trick against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the round of 16, adding three more to his tally in the quarter-finals at Stamford Bridge and another at the Bernabéu against Chelsea. In the semi-finals, he scored another hat-trick against Manchester City, including the extra-time penalty that confirmed the comeback. Thanks to them, he is third, along with Robert Lewandowski, in the historical ranking of scorers in the European Cup.

UEFA's panel of Technical Observers also awarded Vinícius Júnior, scorer of the winner against Liverpool in the final at the Stade de France, as the best youngster of the year.

The 21-year-old Brazilian winger scored four goals and gave six assists, a figure only surpassed by the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes, of Manchester United; most of them served for Karim Benzema to score.

In addition, the two madridistas are part of the team of the season along with their teammates Luka Modric and Thibaut Courtois. Also included in it are Liverpool defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson and Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger; Manchester midfielders Kevin de Bruyne and Liverpool Fabinho; and Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé.
